OH-6 Helicopter Ceiling Fan
One of my favorite pilot jokes goes "how do you know there's a pilot in the room?" to which the punchline is "they'll tell you." It's funny because it carries a lot of truth and you'll find that most of us bitten by the "aviation bug" tend to surround ourselves with our passion.
Common items you might find in a house occupied by someone in love with the skies (other than an understanding significant other) often include mounted propellers, aircraft models, and walls covered in system layouts, aviation achievements, or pictures of aircraft.
About a month ago, I saw something very different; a man had turned his ceiling fan into a helicopter.
After spending a good amount of time gawking, I sent the link over to my brother, Jim, who was also equally impressed. I thought that may have been the end of it but it wasn't.
A few days ago he sent me a photo of all the parts he had purchased to make our own and invited me over. I'm happy to report that as of this afternoon we have made our own and below is a video on how we did it.

ReplyDeleteNeat, would be great if the company offered a true OH-6 of the Vietnam Era. That one is a T-tail five blade later version but not to worry. I almost bought one for $100 on ebay once. I flew them starting in Oct 68. Was a test pilot (maintenance type) and later systems test pilot to add some navigation/landing radios to the airframe. Don't take any of this as negative, great job and super tribute. One of the first one of these I saw was at Dillon Aero, manufacturer of current 7.62 miniguns. Bob Smith MAJ. USA Ret.

When I contacted them to ask for a refund they said they would only refund half of it. Ummm no...I didn't pay only half. If this is how they do business I would not recommend spending your money.
